Woods Hole Film Festival
Tuesday, July 27th, 2010The 19th annual Woods Hole Film Festival opens this weekend, July 31 and runs through August 7 in Massachusetts. More than 50 short films in five categories will be featured. Among them the short narrative, “Celebrities in Disgrace“. This short is inspired by the Tonya Harding / Nancy Kerrigan skating incident of 16 years ago. According to an article by Andrea Shea over at wbur.org, the films writer, its director and producer see the festival screening as a stepping stone for distributing and monetizing short films online. I’m not sure how that would work with all the free shorts available online. However, I recently read that in India there’s a growing appetite for short films and that television channels are starting to look for alternative content such as shorts and docu-dramas. I for one think shorts on TV here in America would be a good thing… a nice alternative to Reality TV.
